Shear resistance and design of stainless steel plate girders in fire

In this paper, the shear resistance and design of stainless steel plate girders at elevated temperatures are investigated. A broad range parameters influencing structural response in fire taken into account, considering (i) austenitic duplex grades, (ii) rigid non-rigid end posts, (iii) different aspect ratios for unstiffened portions girders, (iv) various web slendernesses (v) temperature levels. The influence these on behaviour is considered. Currently, there an absence specific rules European standard EN 1993-1-2. Considering this, accuracy assessment room girder recommendations 1993-1-4 applied with material properties performed. results indicate that approach leads to unsafe scattered ultimate strength estimations fire. New accordance existing provisions 1993-1-2 proposed. safety proposed new comprehensively verified against from nonlinear finite element modelling.
